Creating safe spaces for mental health support

Mental Health Safe Spaces

In the densely populated urban slums of Nairobi, Eldoret and Mombasa, LGBTQ youth face severe stigma, violence, and isolation, leading to acute mental health crises.

This project establishes discreet, community-led safe spaces offering trauma-informed counseling, peer support groups, and crisis intervention. Staffed by trained facilitators—including affirming psychologists and LGBTQ advocates—these hubs provide confidential mental health services tailored to the unique challenges of queer Kenyans.

Building sustainable livelihoods and economic independence

Economic Empowerment

Recognizing that economic vulnerability fuels exploitation and mental strain, this project's second pillar focuses on sustainable livelihood creation.

It offers LGBTQ youth vocational training in high-demand, low-visibility sectors like digital freelancing, eco-friendly artisan crafts, and agribusiness—allowing discreet income generation. Participants access microloans through partnerships with inclusive financial cooperatives, seed funding for small enterprises, and mentorship from queer-owned businesses.
